The Burning

"The Burning" is a triptych of original oil paintings inspired by the seasonal burning of gorse across the mountains near the Vee in the Knockmealdown Mountains.
Painted over the course of a single blaze, the three panels capture the fire as it changes through the hours — from the first glow across the landscape to the intensity of the flames and the deepening darkness that follows. Expressive brushwork, rich colour and shifting light convey both the raw power of the fire and the haunting beauty of the mountain landscape.
The work is also deeply personal, inspired by witnessing this landscape through the eyes of someone whose life is closely connected to the fire service. The Burning is ultimately a study of fire, light, atmosphere and the ever-changing character of the Irish mountains.
